(And why it’s not just therapy with a side of cheerleading)
If you happen to find yourself here, you’ve definitely heard the word “coach”.
But you should know that title is thrown around like confetti in the personal development world.
Life coach. Health coach. Transformation coach. All legit. All different.
(There’s probably even a crystal coach by now—no shade, I’d probably hire her.)
But what the hell is coaching actually?
What does it look like?
‘Facilitator of growth’? Cool. But that doesn’t clarify a damn thing, Kylee.
And why the fuck would anyone pay someone to ask them questions they could just Google?
Let’s clear this up.
🧊 Coaching ≠ Therapy
First off: I love therapy.
I’ve spent about 8 years in therapy off and on over the last 12 years or so.
Therapists are essential, trained, trauma-informed professionals who can walk you through your past with skill and safety.
Therapy helps you process, unpack, and often heal.
Coaching isn’t that.
Coaching is future-focused. It’s about momentum. We don’t go spelunking into your childhood trauma (unless it shows up in real-time patterns, and even then we aren’t gonna dig deeper. We may pause, we may tread water for a breath. It’s all about what that connection to the trauma means to you in this present moment).
So instead, we start with:
Where are you now?
Where do you want to go?
And what the hell is getting in the way?
Coaching is about awareness + action.
Clarity + courage.
Reflection + accountability.
It’s not “fixing” you. It’s helping you remember you were never broken.
🧠 Coaching Isn’t Advice—It’s Pattern Disruption
This is the part that usually throws people. Most of us are used to someone telling us what to do.
Parents. Bosses. Partners.
That one friend who always acts like they know best.
There are thousands of self development books with “the answer” that you need to change or add or stop or remove or double down, for whatever problem you are facing.
We have google to give us the top picks for vehicles, vacation itineraries, gadgets, gurus, or gluten-free meal plans. Even ChatGPT will tell you how to solve a problem.
So it’s weird at first when a coach doesn’t tell you what to do.Instead, they ask the right damn question—and suddenly your brain’s like:
“Wait. Did I just change my entire life because of that one sentence???”
Yep. Welcome to coaching.
Because true change doesn’t come from being told what to do.It comes from ownership. From clarity. From realizing your own truth.
🧭 So, WTF Is Coaching?
It’s not a quick fix.
It’s not therapy.
It’s not cheerleading.
It’s not advice.
For all you visual learners out there, let’s take a journey into our imagination...
Imagine yourself as someone who is terrified to drive a car.
So WHAT do you? You reach out for help. Therapist, counselor, mentor, consultant, coach… but how do you know who’s the right fit?
The truth is that each of these has a time and place so you need to know how they would help you with this issue.
Think of it this way:
A therapist will explore what’s stopping you from driving your car.
A counselor will listen to your anxieties about the car.
A mentor will share tips from their own driving experience.
A consultant will tell you how to drive it.
A coach? 👉 They get in the passenger seat of the car as you climb in the driver’s seat, we buckle up, and say: “Let’s fucking go.”
⚡ Coaching Feels Like
Remember that coaching is not a to-do list.
It’s a transformational relationship and you are in that driver’s seat.
(And yeah—sometimes we also scream in the passenger seat when the road gets scary. That’s part of the fun.)
Coaching is…
A mirror without judgment.
A spotlight on your self-sabotage (with compassion).
A sacred container where you get to ask, “What if I actually believed in myself?”
A space to be brave. To be messy. To be real.
It’s a bold, powerful collaboration. We create a road map together of where you want to go, then break it down into steps to get you there. I ask questions, you bring the radical honesty…because we are not getting anywhere without that.
It’s holding a mirror to your patterns and whispering, “You already know the way—you just needed to see it clearly.”
✨ Coaching, My Way
There’s a lot of “live your best life!!” coaches out there.
Witch please – that is not me.
My coaching style is equal parts deep-dive and fierce permission.
I hold space for your fear and your fire.
I work with people who are ready to deconstruct the life they were told to live and build one that feels like home—messy, magical, and fully theirs.
I’ve been the client.
I’ve had coaches who changed my life.
And now I get to walk with others as they wake up to their truth.
It’s a sacred space where change starts—not because someone told you to—but because you finally gave yourself permission.
💬 Reflection Prompt:
What belief about yourself or your life are you ready to outgrow?
(And what could shift if you had support that didn’t come with judgment or agenda?)
Be strong. Do it scared. 💜
